Construct 2 FAQ
All your questions answered
Will you make the Construct 2 editor run on Mac?
We're a tiny two-man startup. In a perfect world obviously the editor would run everywhere, but we just don't have the resources to write a Mac editor yet. Maybe once we've finished the Windows editor it's something we can think about!

Why not make the Construct 2 editor run in the browser?
After a careful review of the technology, we don't think this would provide a good editing experience. The editor is orders of magnitude more complex than any particular game it creates, and the games are pushing current browsers to the limit.

Can I edit images in Construct 2?
We have a built-in image editor, but it's a work in progress. We hope to add lots of drawing tools soon. In the mean time, simply draw your artwork in another program, and import them with the 'open' button in the image editor. Alternatively, for single frame sprites, you can just drag a PNG file in to the layout and it will create a sprite from that for you.

Do I need a Business license?
Probably not - only if you're going to be using Construct 2 at a for-profit organisation like a business, or if you're an individual who has already made $5000 using Construct 2. Most people don't meet those criteria, so all you need is a Standard license which is cheaper. It has all the same features as the Business license! You can read more at How Construct 2 licenses work.

Will there be an option to upgrade from a Standard license to a Business license?
We're working on this and hope to have an upgrade path in the near future. In the mean time send us a mail to licensehelp@scirra.com and we'll sort you out!

I hear HTML5 is slow. Is it?
Absolutely not! It used to be a couple of years ago, but things have changed: now all modern browsers hardware-accelerate their rendering and optimise Javascript to run like native code. For an extra speed boost, Construct 2 also supports WebGL for even faster and smoother rendering. The end result is high-performance games often running at a solid 60 fps. Just remember to keep your browser updated to the latest version to make sure everything runs as fast as possible!

What happened to (or where is) <some feature>?
We're a tiny 2-man team and we have a long todo list. Chances are we're aware of it and aim to have it completed as soon as possible!

Is Construct 2 still open source?
Construct Classic was an open-source project, but Construct 2 is now closed-source since it's difficult to issue licenses for open-source software.

Can I import 0.x .cap files to Construct 2?
Unfortunately not. Construct 2 was rewritten from scratch using totally different technologies. It would be very difficult to import Construct Classic's files, and meanwhile we're a small team that's very busy with developing Construct 2 itself. Sorry!

Does the license last forever? Are updates free?
Yes, the license is a one-off purchase, lasts forever, and you get all updates to the Construct 2 editor for free. For more information see How Construct 2 licenses work.
