Construct 2 support for Wii U now available

by Ashley | 6th, February 2014

Scirra are pleased to announce availability of the Wii U system plugin for Construct 2 to Nintendo Authorised Developers. Support is available since Construct 2 release r159 (, which was released last week. The plugin allows Construct 2 games to be exported and run on Wii U via the Nintendo Web Framework, while also integrating with Wii U specific features such as the Wii U GamePad and Wii Remote controllers. Developing for consoles has never been easier!

Construct 2 developers can apply to become Nintendo Authorised Developers at After becoming authorised, instructions for obtaining Wii U plugin and further documentation are available on the Wii U developer's forum. The plugin will continue to be developed, adding new features and fixing any issues that are found, and further updates will be released there. Note that the Construct 2 download itself does not contain any Wii U functionality, which is instead provided through the Wii U plugin alone.

This is the first time Construct 2 developers have a direct path to publishing on a major console, and we look forward to seeing how our developers’ imaginative games make creative use of the exciting and flexible capabilities of Wii U features; such as the accelerometer and gyroscope-enabled controllers and five-way local multiplayer. The Wii U plugin is also available at no extra cost to Construct 2 license holders. Register with Nintendo if you haven't already and start making games for Wii U!

This is so fantastic... T_T
And because I believe in Construct2, I know someday, Ashley will write a new blog post titled:"Construct 2 support for PS4/PS3 is now available. Xbox One Coming next week."
Baby steps in IT can lead to greatness... Keep up the good work.

This is awesome! On the form itself for Nintendo which option do we check on the "What Nintendo development tool(s) are you interested in using?" question?

I'm guessing it's "Nintendo Web Framework for Wii U" because it's either that or Unity.

I do wonder how long it takes to be approved. I filled out the form in November, had a response asking for additional information in December, and I responded last month.

Becoming a WiiU dev would really encourage me to lean my games more toward Nintendo rather than mobiles.

@almostnot Yes it's the Nintendo Framework option.

@AnD4D Approval process can take 2-3 months. Some devs who applied at GDC are releasing their games in a few weeks. (Which includes dev time)

How much does it cost to become a Wii Dev?

Guys... I can't praise this tool(C2) enough. And now we have an opportunity to assist Nintendo in moving Wii U units with indie development content... Wow, it kinda feels like the "good ole days" when Nintendo was "King", and every "third party" dev(s) wanted to make games for the NES... Great time for gaming, but an even greater time for indie developing... Thank you Scirra!!! :)

I was wondering the same thing... Maybe there's info on this via Nintendo/Wii U's official website??? :/

Thanks @MrValtor! I love my WiiU, and it would be great to have some more 3rd party games released on it.
