Construct 3 Gamejam with Newgrounds

Construct 3 Gamejam with Newgrounds

We know you're all excited to get your hands on the public beta this Tuesday (and we're at least equally as excited to get it into your hands!). The public beta will run for 8 weeks using the Free Edition of Construct 3.

In the eighth week (15th of May to 21st may) we'll be running a gamejam with the awesome people at Newgrounds.com. The theme of this jam will be announced nearer the time (we've already got a cool theme but don't want to show our hand just yet!).

Even though it's several weeks away, we're all excited to see what you all come up with!

Are you a little worried about making games with the free edition of Construct 3 for the jam? Read on...

All Features Unlocked

Unlike Construct 2, we now have the option and ability to experiment with unlocking all features when and where we want (think free weekends for Construct 3...).

The Newgrounds gamejam seems like the perfect moment to unlock all Construct 3 features to everyone for the duration of the jam! This means for the duration of the game jam you'll be able to try out every feature of Construct 3 for free.

"I was amazed at how quickly I could compile and play a game project in Construct 3, without ever leaving my web browser. People are gonna love this."
- Tom Fulp, Newgrounds Founder

Tom Fulp's given the alpha a go and we agree, we think you're all going to love Construct 3!

Will that be the online only version or the desktop version or both?

@Lamar we don't have an ETA on the desktop versions yet I'm afraid. Most likely will be online only for beta.

any prizes or feature potential? it would be great to know if we're talking web only or maybe you want to allow android development? anything like analytics or other services available? I'm excited to give C3 a serious run through.

Also did I read this right.. an 8 week game jam? isn't that kinda long for a jam? :)

It's an 8-week beta. The game jam is only during the last week.

gotta agree here. you can make a full game vs the techdemo's i'd rather see.
these techdemo's can then be build in final form when they rank high.

i hope my next app will fit the category, otherwise, 2 months is simply too long/too much.

Newgrounds have told us if the winning game is good, they might be able to do a large showcase box for it on their homepage, and also promote it on all their social media channels - so a ton of potential exposure.

Apart from that, this time round we're trialling less emphasis on prizes. We did get some feedback throughout the year that the prizes do change the experience of the jam.

We may throw in a traditional booby prize and some monkeys for fun, if we do we'll announce so nearer the time.

@mateussales the idea is that as soon as the gamejam is over, Construct 3 will be available for purchase. So yes, if you're willing to get a C3 license you can continue right where you left off.

That's a great idea to force people buy the subscription then, once they have used and over used the locked features!
