Competition Winners

by Tom | 30th, October 2011

As many of you know, we recently ran for the first time an official competition. The theme was 'Space'. One thing to note is that people only had 2 weeks to make their games in Construct 2! This just goes to show how much can be achieved in such a short time using Construct 2. A full list of entries can be found here. (42 of them!)

Me and Ash were judging all the entries, and we were truly very impressed by the quality and variety of entries! Infact, we had about 4 times as many entries as we were estimating! It took a long time to try out all the games but we had a lot of fun doing so.

Without further ado, the winners are:

1st Place

MoonShield by Yann. Yann wins a $50 amazon voucher and 1 copy of the book.

2nd Place

Trashoid Attack by Kastas. Kastas wins 1 copy of the book.

3rd Place

Can't turn it off by Animmaniac. Animmaniac wins 1 copy of the book.

Honourable Mention
Both of us absolutely loved Leparlon's entry, Paper Planets Have No Gravity. We really enjoyed the artwork and game play in it and it just missed out on the top 3 by a very small margin! Although it closely missed out on prizes it deserves and extra special mention!

If you did not win, do not despair just yet! We are running a users choice poll. Vote for your favourite game in each poll! The poll will close on the 3rd November to give everyone time to play the games. After the poll closes, the top 2 from each group will face off in a final poll. The winner of the final poll will be awarded a users choice trophy.

We thoroughly enjoyed running this competition, and thank everyone for entering. Winners will shortly be contacted for their prize delivery!

Those are some nice game! Kinda disappointed I can't run any of them decently with my 2.1GHz single core processor. MoonShield simply gets stuck at 100% cpu, in Trashoid the sound gets bugged, and Can't Turn it Off was just kinda laggy. No offense to the developers though just my crappy hardware. ;)

@TehLulz you definitely have hardware acceleration on in the browser?

Congratulations to the winners ! ^_^
I have to say that from the three games, "Can't turn it off" is my favorite.

Well, I didn't said, but I TOTALLY AGREE with Hendrix because the choice look really discretionary. There were a lot of games with better sound design, design, and they were easier to understand than these winners. This is the reason. Can't turn it off, between the others, is the better.

Hi Cristina,

This competition was meant to be a bit of fun, it's the first official one we've run. If you read the original competition thread you will see that we were picking winners on the games we had most fun playing, not as you describe those with the best sounds, graphics and design.

We played all the games and enjoyed all of them! There were a lot of really great games and it's a shame we couldn't give prizes to all of those as well (but it gets quite expensive!)

Hope this clears it up and that people respect our decision. If you have comments about how the competition was run, feel free to discuss them here:

The sad fact of the matter is that me and Ashleys decision isn't obviously going to make everyone happy. But we did it as fairly as we could.

I respect your decision, but that doesn't mean that I have to agree with you.
Ok, I know about it - it's hard to make everyone happy. And it's your competition, not mine. But, Tom, I guess this thing of "funny" is very subjective. It's not about prizes(expensive or not), I must say, first of all.
I hope you undestand. I'm not trying to disturb the peace, ok? So sorry if I looked like this.

I'm using Firefox. Isn't it turned on by default? Gonna have to take a look at that then.

*Done a little test with Microsoft's FishIE tank, and got 60 fps with 100 fish, 30-40 with 250. Dunno how that compares to the average strain of the games submitted here.

Any chance we can see the source for some of these contest winners? Would be great inspiration as well as useful code!

when scirra will hold the competition again?
maybe more definitely interesting if more intensive competition was held to look at the ability of developer.

because, the competition will motivate us, although not be a winner.. (i think) ^o^
