New this build: editing values in the debugger! This improves the utility of the debugger greatly, since you can simply click a value, type something in, hit enter, and immediately see the result in real-time. This is also great for experimenting and tweaking, such as getting things like all the particle effect properties fine-tuned with immediate feedback. It's a powerful feature, and consequently is not available in the Free edition - another useful bonus if you have a license!

Other improvements include the ability to step a single frame while paused (the engine simulates a dt of 0.016 - the value of delta time at 60 FPS) so you can inspect the behavior of the game frame-by-frame, such as to watch how a collision is handled; and the missing global and static local variables are now shown and can be edited!

We have more improvements to the debugger planned. We've read some suggestions on the forum and have some of our own other ideas, so we'll keep making improvements over the next couple of betas. Stay tuned!

Also if you're based around London (UK), check out our upcoming Scirra Night on 27th September!

Changelog

Feature

Debugger: can now edit values to change them in real-time. (Not available in free edition)

Add

Debugger: now shows global and static local variables under 'System'

Add

Debugger: 'Step' button, to run a single tick with a simulated dt of 0.016 (i.e. the dt you get at 60 FPS). Useful for debugging outcomes tick by tick.

Add

System expressions: LayerParallaxX(layer), LayerParallaxY(layer)

Add

Platform behavior: GravityAngle expression

Change

Ludei are now maintaining the CocoonJS plugin. Some new IAP functions have been added.

Change

Debugger: also shows frame time in milliseconds next to the FPS under 'System'

Change

The way the engine does case-insensitive string comparisons (which it does in many places) has been altered to try to create less garbage. Watch out for any issues that this might introduce.

Bug Fix

Debugger: now works with node-webkit preview

Bug Fix

Sprite: animations would sometimes advance a frame sooner than they ought to when changing the timescale

Bug Fix

Audio: positioned sounds now orient correctly with rotating layers

Wow! This is getting to be some powerful debugger! Editing values on the fly - that's a superb new feature. And congrats to the Scirra team for making it a bonus only for us license-holders!
