Construct 2 Release r244

Download

57.3 mb, Windows 8/Windows 7/Vista/XP

Wednesday, April 19, 2017

This stable update adds new fixes and resolves a range of issues since the last r239. Notable improvements include:

  • WebGL 2 support which allows better-quality graphics in some circumstances and makes power-of-two sizing irrelevant
  • New offline triggers that fire as the offline status updates
  • Moved to new standardised pointer events in Chrome
  • Ability to unload audio from memory

There are some more changes in this release detailed in the changelog below.

The Construct 3 public beta is now available!

In case you missed it, the Construct 3 public beta has started! You can try out Construct 3 right now simply by visiting editor.construct.net.

We'll still be maintaining Construct 2, much as we have for the past year or so. However we will be focusing on Construct 3 for new features, including a new runtime.

Introducing the Xbox Live plugin

This release also adds an official Xbox Live plugin, available to licensed users. This will allow integration with Xbox Live services and will enable publishing Xbox One games. It currently only has features to sign in and get player metadata but we'll be expanding on this shortly. Currently it needs a few adjustments to work after exporting; we'll be providing more information on this shortly, and will be working on streamlining the process over the next few builds.

Release details

For full details of all changes since r239, see the intervening release notes:

  • r240 (10 changes): WebGL 2; offline triggers; pointer events
  • r241 (10 changes): removed warnings; several bug fixes
  • r242 (5 changes): unloading audio from memory; bug fixes
  • r243 (6 changes): TMX import improvement; more changes and fixes

As usual we are also regularly updating NW.js at scirra.com/nwjs, and are currently up to v0.21.1 (based on Chromium 57).

We strongly recommend all users update to this stable release to take advantage of new features and avoid running in to bugs or compatibility issues we've already fixed. If you'd like to try updates and new features sooner and help test them, you can also update to our public beta releases. You can opt-in to beta updates from Preferences, or follow beta release announcements on our Facebook or Twitter accounts, or by subscribing to email notifications in your profile settings.

Changelog

Feature

New Xbox Live plugin

Add

NWjs plugin: new AppFolderURL plugin, which just prefixes the app folder with "file://", ensuring it works correctly when used in a URL parameter

Change

WebGL renderer: updated to take in to account a spec change in GPU selection. Now WebGL ought to select the most powerful GPU available, if the browser and OS supports this.

Change

Cordova iOS: if the HTTP server (used for video support) fails to start, it no longer displays an error message and continues trying to load regardless. This should avoid a "server is already up" message. (It's still not clear why that would ever appear though.) If that happens, the app runs but video playback won't work, which is a better fallback than failing completely.

Bug Fix

UserMedia: canvas recording feature did not work in minified exports

I never know if I need or should update NW.js. Does Construct 2 warn us if our NW.js needs to be updated?

Ok, problem! After update C2 won't start up anymore. I have restarted, I have reinstalled - uninstalling previous version etc. No go, what do I check now?
