New this build: image points, and a new welcome screen when starting Construct 2!

Image points allow you to place points at interesting points on an image. For example, you could place an image point at the end of the player's gun, and spawn bullets from that image point. Then, bullets appear at the end of the gun, rather than at the object's origin (typically in the middle of the object). You can have as many image points as you like on each animation frame.

Image points use a new floating window in the image editor:

This provides a single place to set both the origin (formerly "hotspot") and image points.

Remember everything in Construct 2 is 0-based. However, the 0th image point is always the origin. Therefore, the first image point is at index 1. Try not to let this confuse you: just think image points are also 0-based, just the origin is always the first image point.

The new welcome screen should help speed things up for people who regularly open recent documents, and also give some good options for beginners to start exploring the software. Enjoy! :)

Changelog

Feature

Image points. A new dialog in the picture editor lets you set the origin (formerly 'hotspot') and any image points from the same place. Sprite's 'spawn an object' action now works with image points. Sprite also has new expressions to get an image point's co-ordinates.

Feature

A new welcome screen to help introduce new users and get you going with fewer clicks. You can turn it off in preferences if you prefer a blank startup.

Change

'Hotspot' now referred to as 'Origin'

Change

New free edition exit dialog

Change

8 direction behavior: now should not get stuck in walls if rotating or hit by moving walls. Note this still only works by bounding-box collision.

Bug Fix

Games occasionally stopped working due to a Z ordering bug

Bug Fix

Occasional check failure clicking some project elements while editing a property in the properties bar

Bug Fix

Picture editor: crash if you imported an invalid image file

Bug Fix

Keyboard object: 'on key pressed' event repeated if you held a key down for a long time

Bug Fix

Removed 'maximize' and 'minimize' context menu options on object panel caption

Bug Fix

Event wizard: 'next' button sometimes didn't enable or update properly

SDK

Behavior expressions with parameters now insert correctly when double clicked in the parameters dialog

SDK

Upgraded jQuery from 1.6.2 to 1.6.3

The installer is 8 MB larger than before, but that's okay. Nice work with the welcome screen.

@Przemek32767, we decided to include the Space Blaster game project (about 8mb) so beginners could have a chance to play with it. It's linked to in the welcome screen.
