New this build: experimental support for building phone apps with PhoneGap! This allows you to build iOS, Android, Symbian, Blackberry and webOS apps online using the PhoneGap Build service. This saves you having to install lots of complicated development software on your computer. Please note this feature is a work in progress and is being made available for testing purposes only. You can read more about the feature in How to make native phone apps with Construct 2 and PhoneGap. If you want to build iOS apps you'll also still need to sign up with Apple as an iOS developer, which requires a Mac and costs $99/yr. There's more information in How to become an iOS developer.

There's also an important stability fix: if you were experiencing Construct 2 closing without any messages when saving or previewing, hopefully this is now resolved. I found an issue in the HTML5 exporter that probably caused it, so fingers crossed, it should be OK now. I'm afraid the installer also clears your saved settings in the registry as well - the New Project dialog changed which required this. However, some users reported this improved stability anyway, so maybe it's for the best!

One more feature is a new option to support multiple screen sizes (see the changelog). This basically scales the game to fit the current window size. Hopefully you'll find this especially handy if you're trying to get your game to look good on phones, tablets and desktops!

Changelog

Feature

Experimental support for building native phone apps with PhoneGap. See How to make native phone apps with Construct 2 and PhoneGap.

Feature

Support for multiple screen sizes. The 'Fullscreen in browser' project property has been changed to "Off", "On (crop mode)" and "On (scale mode)". "Crop mode" works as before. "Scale mode" zooms the entire layout to fit the size of the window. This is great for getting your games to run well on different size screens - it'll just scale it to fit. See the 'Fullscreen - scaling to window size' example for tips.

Add

System: Set Layout Scale (easily scale everything)

Add

System: LayoutName expression

Add

System: Reset Global Variables action (reset all global variables in the project to their initial values)

Add

Layer: 'Scale rate' property. Adjust the rate individual layers scale - sort of the equivalent of parallax, but for zooming. Set to 0 to not scale at all (useful for UI layers when scaling to the window size, especially with fullscreen scale mode).

Add

Flash: 'stop flashing' action

Add

Fade: 'restart fade' action

Change

Updated the HTML5 exporter's V8 Javascript engine to the latest version. This was part of trying to resolve some recent stability issues. It may also improve stability on the 64-bit build in particular. As an added bonus, this update includes the new 'Crankshaft' update, which should boost performance in the editor.

Change

Removed the Platforms list from the New Project dialog for the time being (so long as there's only one choice).

Bug Fix

Issues with the HTML5 exporter may have been causing close-without-error-message crashes on save or preview

Bug Fix

Car behavior: speed and movingangle expressions didn't work

Bug Fix

Keyboard: holding arrow keys or spacebar could scroll the page down when the game was embedded to some pages

Bug Fix

Touch: detecting touches on objects did not take in to account the collision polygon

Bug Fix

Touch: 'On touched object' didn't work on some devices

Bug Fix

Sprite: entering the wrong value for 'initial frame' could make the project crash when opening - any projects that did this should now open correctly in this release

Bug Fix

Mouse & Touch: setting a parallax on the bottom layer affected the X and Y expressions

Bug Fix

Physics: setting object's size to 0, 0 caused game to hang

Bug Fix

Typo in tip for 'set layer scale'

for the option of multi-touch we could use the framework of SENCHA (sencha touch)! I'll have to test and reports as I go!
