  • Dear all!

Sorry this is my first post and I'm not very experienced with Construct.

Some months ago I see this video on youtube :

then I wonder how this guy made this fantastic effect.

Years ago I have played with MMF2 and tried, but without luck. Then I discovered this fantastic program and made some tuts.I played a little bit with the effects and filters but my result is some kind of a wired copy of the video.

I try the search function to find something useful but didn't get any positive results, or I'm so dumb that I don't get it XD

Can someone give me some tips how to make this effect better.

    This is my test: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PR3C81EI

    Thank you all.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English, but I think that is better than GoogleTranslate

Here is what I have come up with after a bit of playing around with the texture. I couldn't see your test, megaupload is saying it is temporarily unavailable.

    A little updated texture

I have made many modifications trying to find the optimal texture for this effect. Several things to note are that the background image used in the MMF example is helping the effect a great deal. Pressing 1 or 2 will change the background on both caps I have uploaded.

So there is two layers. The first layer has the background image on it, with a warp effect on the layer. The second layer has the particle effect on it, with a magnify effect on the layer.

  • Wow...Ok...I think that I have to learn a lot hire

I made the thing in a complete wrong way,... so I have to practice more and make more tutorials to completely understand the Construct engine and all potentials of it - specially the particle object XD

Thank you Steven, you give me a complete different way to do things

  • Hm, can't manage to open the projects you made.

    Can you upload the texture? I would be happy for the rest of my life :}

  • tyfricko - You were pretty much on to it with your cap, I did eventually get to try it. I had initially planned to do it manually like you did, but I use lots of private variables in my workflow, and didn't want to over complicate things.

gz478 - I saved my caps with the latest version of Construct. So you would be needing that to open them. Here are the final four I went through(out of 14 saved) The last is probably the best, open in the middle preventing the effect bunching up too quickly and becoming flat, and a few rings on the outside to give more definition to the distortion.

  • Everything looks really good in this effect, here's a challenge though (I'm trying but failing lol) any way to modify this effect to have it appear is though raindrop are hitting the camera (or a window pane) and running down, and for that matter, if it can be done with "water" is there a reasonable way to tint it and replace it with other fluid (ie blood, acid)

  • Brent_Hamel - Here is the running down the camera look. No splashes but it wouldn't be hard to add, just use another particle effect. As for tinting it, I don't think that is possible with the magnify effect running, however if you play with the range of effects, trying different combinations etc you can definitely come up with something quite good, I have seen a few running around the forums here.

  • Try Construct 3

  • That effect is darn near perfect! Thanks for the timely response. Now all I need to do is replace that lame player splash and I think the water engine for my game will be ready. Here's what I have so far (including the effect you just shared with me)

  • Small off-topic on Steven's sig:

Suppose you throw a coin enough times...suppose one day, it lands on its edge.

    http://projectforsaken.wordpress.com

Right after the first showing of the original Hellraiser movie on my local TV station, a friend and I were flipping a coin. At some point, my friend says: "if the coin lands on it's edge, the Cenobites will take me tonight." as he flicked the coin. I smiled a bit and watched as it flipped about in mid-air.

    And guess what.

    It did.

    fun times =)
