2d platform shooter aiming and animation

hi

am building a platform shooter and i want my character to move right to left and aim 360 but it wont show the characters gun aiming until the user starts shooting.with sprites please

One way could be to have a sprite rotate "every tick" to track the movements of the mouse. So the rotating sprite is the arm and gun. The angle will be determined by comparing the x and y coordinates of the mouse to the x and y coordinates of the body of the character.

thank you very much....but i need the character not to show it is aiming until the character shoots then you can see where its aiming.
