2d Tileset maker software

Discussion of tools and resources for game developers

Post » Mon Jul 28, 2014 6:03 pm

Hi Guys, is there any software you can recommend other than Photoshop that makes it easier to create some nice tile sets. I'm more a developer than a graphics guy, and buying sprites etc. and not being able t change them is a bit difficult. For now, I am looking at software that make it a little less hard to create your own tile sets for games.

Any of you know of software or a few really good tuts or books. I want a course or book I can buy if there is that describes from beginner to advanced.

I just saw this one on steam today, don't know if it's any good, but it looks cool: http://autotilegen.com/

Gimp

There are some plugs on the registry, but for the most part just figure out how to set up "snap to grid", and how to use the move tool.

The best advice is figure out the width, and height before you start.
Like width = tile width * number of tiles across.

I tend to buy graphics from graphicriver.net since I'm not a graphics guy. Otherwise, besides the one on steam there's also the new 2D Tileset Generator (http://www.motacore.com/2d-tile-generator/). There's gotta be more than this though.
