3 audio file types: Are they all necessary?

Get help using Construct 2

Post » Fri May 17, 2013 9:44 am

When I imported sound files into my project, Construct 2 generated .m4a, .ogg, and .wav files for all of them. Do I need to keep all of these files for the final build, or can I delete all but one type?

@harrietrc,

The different audio files are generated to allow for the different formats used on various platforms.

Not sure which format goes with which platform, but it should be fairly easy to find out.

Hope that helps :)

If in the future someone in a similar situation to me views this post, here's a page of formats supported by Windows Phone: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsphone/develop/ff462087%28v=vs.105%29.aspx

@harrietrc,

Another helpful hint, if you want to get someone's attention on the forum, just use the @ symbol, directly followed by users name (e.g. @harrietrc).

That way the person is automatically notified of your message to them.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy using C2 :)Blacksmith2013-05-17 10:34:16

The files are in multi format to ensure all browsers can support sound, Firefox and chrome using the Ogg files and internet explorer uses m4a...

I believe you can remove the Wav files, once imported to C2 to reduce the size of your project, but I have never felt the need to...
As long as I can move left, right and fire, I'm Happy...

Thanks @Pixel perfick and @Blacksmith. It seems like I can't delete all but the .m4a files and have the sound still work, so I've gone ahead and deleted the .wav files like Pixel perfick said.
