  • So it looks like Scirra just got another competitor on the HTML5 game engine market.

    It's called Quintus.

From the looks of it, it requires programming/coding knowledge, specifically Javascript. Might be attractive to game developers with a little bit of masochistic streak and a knack for minimalism. Still, it's out there, creeping up to claim its own piece of the HTML5 cake.

  • We won't give our cake to some rookies ! Come on C2 , kick the softwarebutt of that piece of code !

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Honestly, it looks super-sleek.

  • rom the looks of it, it requires programming/coding knowledge, specifically Javascript.

with that's part alone, enough to differ what C2 is aimed for.

  • If you already know java, then it could be a good tool to use, but for indie developers it isn't worth it. Java has no rosy future. Better learn another programming language in that time and use Unity for making a 3D videogame or Hero Engine for making a MMORPG.

  • Thanks for the heads-up,

But it's definitely not competing in the same arena as C2, with its requirement for raw JavaScript (not Java Astrosus) programming skills.

    Scirra can breath easy.

  • even if you know javascript, what's the advantage of Quintus over C2??

  • It's definitively not a challenger. Maybe to full on programmer users, but for users who have little programming knowledge, C2 is still the better option.

If 3step studio keeps going, it will become THE option for noneprogrammers. C2 needs more pre-programmed functionally to attract this market.

  • PixelPalette, I'd have to disagree with you. 3Step Studio looks like it limts your options immensely to very prestructured games. This isn't where C2 is going at all.

Was not saying C2 is trying to be a program for nonprogrammers. C2 is trying to attract both people without programming knowledge and experience programmers. But in the end, its really just going to get programmers.

Although 3step studio is limited, its doing what it needs to in attracting nonprogrammers.

Agreed (with sqiddster's disagreement). Hardly their claimed "flexibility to create truly unique games" given that it's a "template driven system".

Just another engine that's not competing in the same arena as Construct 2.

  • Minimalism is nice, but only when you're using it in large quantities for high-end performance. But if you want high-end performance, you wouldn't be looking at HTML5 right now.

  • Nope!
