Active users could skip are you human test?

New releases and general discussions.

I have suggested this before, but I'm not entirely sure why it wasn't done... I think Ash said that Rich couldn't figure it out or something, but here we go anyway;

1. Create new board section, call it "The BOT Arena"

2. Create new forum user group "authorised user"

3. Create another new user group "n00b"

Make all new user sign-ups require mod/admin approval to be "upgraded" from n00b status to authorised user status.

n00bs can only post in The BOT Arena, which will obviously include bots.

Authorised Users will have access to the entire boards.

n00bs must post in The BOT Arena in order to get our attention, and give us an opportunity to laugh and mock them. Once we have satisfied our thirst for being a bunch of meanies, we can let them into the real forum.

Should we find an especially cool Bot, we can create yet another user group called Mascot, and let it post in OT... and he must have this signature image:

This would in turn, eliminate the need for the "Are you human?" test entirely.

It didn't work. You can't authorise users into a new group automatically, it'd have to be by hand. It ended up with some bots slipping through.

Yeah, we did it by hand... new users would be checked daily and added to the authorised users list manually...

I'll put my hand up for the job if it means we don't have anyone complaining about the "are you human" test.

Also, the standard user group (the one that everyone will be in when they sign up, bots included) should have the ability to at least PM so they can PM a mod for approval.

And... why do I make you laugh? I am so serious? xD

Then let them complain! The hand-picking method would be much more annoying and alienating for new people. Anyway if a postcount bypass can be implemented then that's probably the most efficient solution.

And yes... I know you do it that way at your other board. But it took me a full day to get activated there. What if some newbie has a question now? We just make him wait? It's an unnecessary annoyance that we don't have to have to put them through.

All I know is I'm glad the bot check is there. It's making my job a hell of a lot easier. I used to get rid of 5+ spam accounts per day, now I do one maybe every other week. If that.
