Hello there , so i have this idea i want to test for a game that uses allot of Speed/physics based elements , to give you a better idea of what i'm aiming to achieve just think of movement and physics similar to the Sonic the hedgehog games.

if any one could point me in the right direction for creating the same kind of mechanics i would be most appreciative.

There was a great example of what you need some time ago on the forums, try to search for "physics platformer" or along those lines.

I'll try to find example capx on my harddrive.

edit: nope, couldn't find it, it was long time ago. Please search the forums, there are a multitude of examples. Also, i would recommend looking into Kyatric's great "how do i" list of examples.
Be nice until it's time to not be nice

Here's a thread or two that includes a platformer physics example (or two). May be of some use:

If your vision so exceeds your ability, then look to something closer.
