[Android]Cordova now on Intel XDK!

Discussion of tools and resources for game developers

Post » Thu Feb 27, 2014 11:26 pm

I've been using the Intel XDK to export my creations (since I'm an project Developer, I used to publish an app for equations useful in the College/High School) but it was too large the apk (18mb) for a few Images.

Now in the Cordova Exporter I made it into 500kb! It's like dividing the file by 36!

What do you guys think about that? And, maybe construct can pick up a plugin for this?

There's a blog post about it here :

Don't know if there's been others post before on this subject, or perhaps in the manual.

But it's the opposite! I used to export in Crosswalk, but it's too heavy, the Cordova is easier.

But I'm having trouble in the Permissions.

Oh, sorry :) I didn't get the point, as I never use that tool yet.

This looks like it would be great for really simple stuff. However I think the main issue is that Cordova doesn't have WebGL, AcceleratedCanvas, WebAudio and other more intensive features. I also suspect Cordova doesn't do JS compiling.

However, Cordova actually looks perfect for a simpler webapp that is more about the DOM than canvas./

The Crosswalk APK is by default adding around 18MB to the size out of the gate and that is not even counting the size of your actual game assets. For smaller you may be able to try CocoonJS. Or even Phonegap if you don't need acceleration or webGL.
