Auto Update for Construct?

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Mon Oct 24, 2011 6:09 am

Would it be too much to ask for auto update to be included in Construct2?

I.e. when opening up - it says 'there is a new version avail - would you like to download?'

Clicking 'Yes, Ash - give it too me!' button causes it to download within the program.

A small request - hopefully it is not too much trouble.

Cheers all

The main reason I'd support this is because it sometimes takes me a while to notice there's a new release out. If I don't happen to see the Facebook post or anyone talking about it here, I'd never know!

I thought Construct 2 DOES notify you- At least when I would run r50-something, it would say "There is a newer version of C2 available; please download that!"

Ahh no worries. At least it is on the list.

I'm sure Ashley will get to it in time.

I always get a note since 59 I think .. and when I accept it I will automatically be directed to the page downloading the latest version?

Construct 2 does have an update notification! It just tells you when a new version is available, but won't download it for you (see that thread).

However sometimes I delay setting off the autoupdater till a few days after a build is out. If there's a big problem I won't trigger the autoupdater at all and will wait until the next build when it's fixed instead. If a few days have gone by and the release seems to work OK, then I set off the autoupdater. Then, it takes up to 24 hours for the software to check for an update again and alert you.

So you should see prompts even if you never visit the site.

I guess I always found out via Facebook/these forums before C2 has a chance to tell me, then. I don't think I've ever seen the update notification before. Sorry bout that!
