Average memory usage for mobile game

Get help using Construct 2

Post » Thu Apr 18, 2013 11:40 am

Hi,

Before I start my game project, I just wanted to find out what the average memory usage is for mobile games. I realize there's no "one size fits all" answer for this question. I'm just looking for a rough ball park figure, for an average platformer (for example), just to give me something to aim for.

Thanks All.

Which customers do you try to target ? High End Smartphone Users(Xperia Z, Galaxy S3-S4, Htc One) or also the old ones ? Do you target only Phones or also tablets ?

For the older ones you should try to stay under 50 mb. But dont trust C2 with the memory use ;) If you exportet you application check it with Eclipse Memory analyzer, it is mostly much lower than c2 told you ;)

Hi @Darklinki,

Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking of targeting both phones and tablets, and trying to make a game which is accessible to as many users as possible (although some of the really old phones will probably be extinct soon, as more new ones are coming on to the market every day).

Good to know that C2 mem usage predictions are often higher than the real figure. Although I can understand why they do this, it seems a little unhelpful (to us developers)to give an inaccurate mem usage figure.

Anyway thanks again for the help.

C2 definitely estimates high, so you should be definitely safe if you equal the memory usage.

If you can get your app running with under 64mb, it should be more or less universal. Above that and you start losing low-end devices.

No worries @Darklinki, I really appreciated your advice, and I did ask for a "ball park figure" after all
