Best way to use particles as debris?

I would like a bullet object to spray particles on collision with a wooden crate.

So far, I have made the particles spawn on an image point on the bullet just before it is destroyed from hitting the crate.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to make the direction of the particles relative to the angle of the bullet.

You can sort of see what I have done so far in this video:

Right after the particle object is spawned, set it's angle to Bullet.Angle - 180.

For those interested, I was able to make the angle more organic by giving it a random range in relation to the bullet, so sometimes the debris flys in different directions now, but not at an angle that it looks jarring!
