In hopes to teach a friend a thing or two about Construct, we decided to make a single-level Bubble Bobble game!

    DOWNLOAD HERE

    -Controls-

    Shift: Run

    Z: Jump

    X: Shoot Bubble

Trap the enemies (Zen-Chans) in your bubbles, then run into or jump on top of the bubbles to pop them and destroy the Zen-Chans. Zen-Chans drop prizes when they are defeated. Prizes range from 100 points to 5600 points, so be sure to collect them before they disappear!

Enemies spawn faster as the game goes on.

There's an invisible airflow that will direct bubbles to the middle of the screen. See if you can use this to your advantage!

1up dolls and Invincibility hearts will randomly drop from the ceiling, but they are pretty rare! Invincibility hearts make you invincible for a short time, and allow you to destroy enemies just by touching them!

You can get 1ups from points, but for each 1up you must get 50k more points than the last. So you get 1ups at 50k, 150k, 300k, 500k and so on.

There is no ending to the game; the goal is to get the highest score possible! Once you lose all your lives, Bub will tell you how you did, and you can restart the game and try again.

Anyway. Feel free to post your hi-scores here.

    We hope you enjoy!

  • Haha this is great!

I found myself bobbing my head to the music as I shot bubbles and caused a blitz!

Lol enough word fun, great game!

    Score: 340,000

  • Well done.I love the oldskool music

  • Hey all, great to be here. I hope to learn more about Construct development as time goes on. Tokinsom did most of the gameplay programming work, I just mostly provided him with some basic design elements and the graphics. Please give it a try! Playing with a controller & Joy2Key is a blast!

  • Nice game. My low-score is 67,000

  • This is really nicely made, congrats .

  • Great stuff. Always loved Bubble Bobble and this captures the feel pretty much spot on.

  • The gameplay feels just like it should. I played it back when you first posted the demo and I thought I left a comment, but I guess I didn't.

    Anyway... great work, good sir.

  • Surely the post by maya29 is a spam bot. If it isn't, then I apologise but it reads like one.

Unfortunately there's no facility to report it yet

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads

You're probably right. It makes me wonder though how the reputation system works? How could a spambot with one post have a rep of 127?

    ...sorry for being off-topic.

  • I think you start off with 125 (or is it 100), then get 2 for each post, so it has ended with 127

If you do start with only 100, then it's a mystery!

Tom says the forum update will allow reporting so we just need to wait for that.

  • I deleted the post :)

And the offending bot should be banned here pretty soon... sorry we're not 100% on top of things yet, the new forum is taking some getting used to.

  • Wow man great job on this, even if it is just one level, its very nicely polished. If you made this for teaching purposes for your friend, is there any chance you'll release the .cap to help other people learn? I just started using this program 3 or 4 days ago and I'm getting the hang of it, but there is still so much to learn.

    Thanks!

Unfortunately the short development of this game went like this:

    Hey Tokin I did this

    cool send it over

    bug

    fix

    rewrite

    hey try that

    send it back

oh cool ok I'll do this

    bugs bugs bugs

    send it over

    no, like this

ok fixed that and added this

spend half an hour explaining to my friend how _____ works

    wash, rinse, repeat.

long story short, regardless of how polished the game itself may seem, the .cap is incredibly sloppy and the events aren't the least bit organized ^^; That said, it probably wouldn't make a very good tutorial.

I'm planning on making some tutorials now that we have a nice tutorial section, though it might be a little while before I come up with something.

  • wow can we get the cap file to this to learn from?
