Buttonless platformer mobile controls (template)

Hey guys!

I'm working on a mobile game template for Scirra Store, inspired by many great iOS games I've played that did not have any virtual buttons (eg. Rayman Adventures).

My question is, what would you like to see in this? At the moment player moves automatically by swiping the screen. Tapping makes the player jump, swiping up/down stops the movement. Also, you can go down on certain platforms by swiping down. Movement feels really good imo.

What would you like to see in this kind of template? I'm thinking of adding more options, for example the game "Leap Day" by Nitrome has really good and interesting controls I'd like to duplicate.

I did something similar using what I call zone controls.

Its first touch below the character, and left or right of it to move that direction.
Second touch below to jump, and double jump.
Single touch above to initiate an attack.

You'll probably have to pinch scale the page to get to the fullscreen button.

Ok, cool! Funny thing is, I'm building this template with the assets from my lowrezjam submission. :-)

Yeah, funny how restricting options makes it more inspiring.

I'd really like to see it!

I tried some stuff like this before. I divided the whole screen into fields/zones which you can press, like in Smashy Road (never played it though). Here is link to the thing on my site:

I've released a few games where I had L/R controls as big invisible buttons - similar to your example. Works fine! This time you can swipe anywhere on the screen (or tap to jump).

A template like that would be amazing, I'm personally tired of the joystick controls on mobile, they are not as intuitive as a real controller. Good luck!
