C2 apps and ipad 1 - why doesn't it work?

Get help using Construct 2

Post » Sat Aug 03, 2013 3:12 am

One the issue I am struggling with is that I cannot get Construct 2 apps to work IPAD 1, I have also been told it won't work on ipod touch and iphone 3 gs.

My app was 26MB zipped and today I discovered I could export as PNG8 so the resulting file is now only 14MB in size.

However, as the app loads it gets to about 20% and crashes to desktop. I doubt it could be a memory issue.

I am not using third party plugins (I learned my lesson).

Has any got an app running on older iDevices?

Are there any know problems/ incompatibilities.

The reason that I am concerned is that it is not possible to limit apps on itunes to certain device, just to version of iOS.

Does iPad 1 have a fully HTML 5 compliant browser and a processor capable of running it?

I've tried a html5 export on an old iPhone 3G and it worked, I think it should work on an iPad

It is probably running out of memory. The iPad 1 has extremely limited memory IIRC. The image format/download size has no effect on memory use since all images are decompressed in memory (see remember not to waste your memory), so using PNG-8 will make no difference there. What does C2's estimated memory use in the status bar say?

@Bluephaze, sorry I should have mentioned I am using Cocoonjs.

@Ashley memory use is 29MB

It is a shame I cannot limit the app to not be downloadable for certain devices.
