  • Could we get an option in the preferences to disable saving of the .persist files? I don't ever change my UI layout, so there's no need for .persist files to be cluttering up everything.

  • Yes, please.

  • It's a nice idea and I like that it encourages organizing projects into folders, but yeah...

  • Statement of agreement.

  • Sounds fine, but you guys should really organise your projects into folders if they're causing extra files to be messy .

  • Persist files don't just save the state of the UI, they save which layouts/event sheets you had open when you last used the .cap. If you turn them off, .caps will only ever load the layout editor for the first layout, which can be annoying.

  • Sounds fine, but you guys should really organise your projects into folders

Well I do exactly that, when I'm working on a project.

But I also do a lot of one-off experiments and testing of other people's .caps for troubleshooting purposes, so things get messy enough as it is

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice feature and when I get back into regular development on a project I'll be using it, but most of the time I just don't need it.

  • Perhaps it should only save when you actually save a .cap file; therefore opening other people's projects and such wouldn't save one, and it'd be confined to actual development?

  • Sure, go hog wild. I just wanna be able to turn them off.

How about this... if I have twenty backup .caps of a project in my WIP folder, I really don't need 20 .persist files, right? I pretty much just need one for that whole project. Would that be possible?

And yeah, I know... you ask "what if you add some event sheet and then open an old version that doesn't have that sheet?" And I would say "maybe it could just ignore any event sheets or whatever that don't exist?"

I don't know how hard that would be to implement or really how practical it would be though.

Oh, also I noticed that the .persist files don't store zoom information for the layout. Could that be added? So if I'm zoomed out to 50% when I close, it's at 50% when I open it?

  • The whole persist system is not yet complete, there's a lot to add to make it even more useful, such as zoom, selected layer, etc.

  • selected layer

Now THAT I can rally behind! You don't know how many times I've opened a .cap and added however many objects only to find out I've been working on the wrong layer
