Cheaper Sprites

What is cheaper between having a ton of tiny sprite with alpha, a few larger ones or one sprite for a tree of this nature?

I need help deciding space over quality since I will have a ton of different trees in my game that take up the whole screen.

Thanks in advance!

Obviously hundreds of little sprites will bottleneck performance.
While large sprites will add to load time, and overall ram.
Take your pick.

Thanks for the response Newt. I think that I will go giant sprite with very few colors. That way I can wiggle the whole thing easily when its bumped. Thanks for the help.

See Performance Tips. Using too many objects can reduce performance, so try to use several medium size ones.

OK Thanks Ashley! Now that you mention that I think it would be aesthetically better as branches will wiggle when in the struck areas. Thanks guys. C2 POWER LORDS!

Perhaps you can also look at the canvas plugin ... seems the best way to create this kind of trees is to draw them ... I think it is also possible (but quite hard) to create a tree generator using canvas plugin so do a illimited number of different trees !naelian2012-05-26 19:33:48
