Choppy preview on Chrome

  • It isn't probably C2 problem, but when previewing a project on Chrome, everything what's moving stutters. All projects, not only mine.

    I'm using r67, Chrome 15.0.874.120 m, Win7 64bit, fps is steady 60-61

on IE9 it looks normal (there is only problem that the screen looks like in this post, I have to hit F12 to bring up the console and than refresh)

Strange is, yesterday everything worked ok. I've encountered same problem some time ago when using Chrome 12 or something, before canvas hardware acceleration, so I looked into the flags and GPU acceleration was off. I didn't change anything, and I thought that for Chrome 15+ GPU acc is implicitly on. After turning it on nothing changed.

  • Have you tried updating the graphic card drivers ?

Sometime this might be enough to correct such "sudden glitches".

  • Well, this sounds like a Chrome problem, so I doubt there's much we can do other than wait for new versions of Chrome and hope they fix it.

FWIW, I use Chrome for most of my testing and it's always been rock solid and with Chrome 15 nice and smooth 60fps, no choppiness.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I am getting the same kind of results. I'd love to reach the fluidity of the basic tutorial.

Am I doing something wrong with my work?

Excuse the Noob post, but I am just trying to figure all this out for a class final. Here is my capx file dl.dropbox.com/u/24210235/CS_Test/ball_test.capx

You should maybe take the time and look at the examples that come with C2, and some of the tutorials.

You have given the main player a handful of behaviors that are conflicting with each other. i.e. you should use either 8-way or Platform and not both, and not with physics, solid etc.

Just start simple, and remove all the behaviors except platform, and continue from that point.

  • Ok, now it's back to normal. Just to test it, today, when I turn gpu acceleration off in the flags, the preview is choppy, it's behaving like yesterday, after turning it on it's good. What I don't understand is, how it went off, without me touching it?

If anyone else had this problem - input chrome://flags/ into the address bar, turn GPU Accelerated Canvas 2D on and restart the browser.

I guess it's solved, kind of. Before moving it the closed bugs, could you leave it here for one more day, I'd like to see if anyone else came across the same problem.

Problem solved: This over anxious noob wants it all at once. Thank you!

  • Same exact thing happened to me... Chrome turned off my hardware acceleration out of nowhere! Thanks for the fix, Noga - I was freaking out.

  • your totally right! o man i think i went crazy, was really happy with the performance, full screen 60 fps! and suddenly everything was slowwww, me checking my events everywhere, how can they do this! im happy you posted this , i too needed to set acceleration flag, some strange thing though, my textobjects seems not antialiased, someone noticed that?
