Construct 2: Your opinion so far...

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Tue Mar 22, 2011 11:09 pm

So, a lot of people seem the have different opinions about the direction Construct 2 development is taking, whether it is about the license model, the features, etc,.
I've recently expressed myself in the Contruct 2 FAQ: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=8487&start=30#p68529

The main reason why I'm posting this, is because I'm in a full-time working team now, and we need to rely on a good development tool that suits our needs for long periods of development.

We are considering using Cx as long as we can (we already started Yokai with it) and then switch to MMf once Cx becomes obsolete and outdated, if Construct 2 doesn't match our needs.

What about you? What do you think so far?
I would like to know your opinion...

Thanks ;)

Development is going on for both C0.x, and C2, and while the rate for C0.x will obviously slow down, C2 should be well into a commercial version before C0.x becomes outdated.
Of course that depends on what you call outdated, since MMF, or Gamemaker really have no way to catch up to it in a lot of aspects.

I agree with you about GameMaker. But it seems to me that MMf is pretty much side by side with Construct right now, with effects, lots of plugins and a huge and active community. Not to mention the stability.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't change Construct for anything, I love it. I'm just guessing everyone will switch to construct 2, and we really need to work with "supported" tools, whether they're free or not. We are "advertising" Construct as much as we can with Yokai. The game build features a construct splash screen, and we will donate if we mange to get the game out.

Either way, thanks a lot for you opinion ;)

It's good but still very limited.By the time C2.0 comes out then both Mmf and Game Maker would probably be on their next upgraded versions as well.So the competition will be fierce and who knows what other Programs,Technology will be out there at that time.

Now if Sony or Nintendo decided to create some user friendly games creation app (Which will never happen),Only then could C2.0 have real competition.MMF could also be truly powerful if the dev's would stop with all their DRM nonsense.Anything can be cracked,no matter what security measures are in place.

Personally I don't believe in HTLM5, that's why I'd like to see c0.x improved, and no more dependancies for the editor or executables.

Construct 2 isn't going to be HTML5 exclusive, remember that! It's a modular exporter design, so more exporters will be developed. We picked HTML5 as the initial exporter because it reaches furthest in the market, as well as being an exciting new technology that we have faith will penetrate the web very deeply.

C.x is like 4 years old? and C2 - 3 months? I think we'll have to just wait for C2 to get to the same and then higher level, probably much less then 4 years after C2 goes commercial.

I've noticed that many people seem to not realize that C2 has a modular export feature and end up thinking that HTML5 is gonna be the only exporter. This is something that really needs to be rectified.
