Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!
  • So, a lot of people seem the have different opinions about the direction Construct 2 development is taking, whether it is about the license model, the features, etc,.

I've recently expressed myself in the Contruct 2 FAQ:

The main reason why I'm posting this, is because I'm in a full-time working team now, and we need to rely on a good development tool that suits our needs for long periods of development.

We are considering using Cx as long as we can (we already started Yokai with it) and then switch to MMf once Cx becomes obsolete and outdated, if Construct 2 doesn't match our needs.

What about you? What do you think so far?

I would like to know your opinion...

    Thanks

  • Development is going on for both C0.x, and C2, and while the rate for C0.x will obviously slow down, C2 should be well into a commercial version before C0.x becomes outdated.

Of course that depends on what you call outdated, since MMF, or Gamemaker really have no way to catch up to it in a lot of aspects.

  • Moved to the C2 preview forum.

I agree with you about GameMaker. But it seems to me that MMf is pretty much side by side with Construct right now, with effects, lots of plugins and a huge and active community. Not to mention the stability.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't change Construct for anything, I love it. I'm just guessing everyone will switch to construct 2, and we really need to work with "supported" tools, whether they're free or not. We are "advertising" Construct as much as we can with Yokai. The game build features a construct splash screen, and we will donate if we mange to get the game out.

Either way, thanks a lot for you opinion

  • It's good but still very limited.By the time C2.0 comes out then both Mmf and Game Maker would probably be on their next upgraded versions as well.So the competition will be fierce and who knows what other Programs,Technology will be out there at that time.

Now if Sony or Nintendo decided to create some user friendly games creation app (Which will never happen),Only then could C2.0 have real competition.MMF could also be truly powerful if the dev's would stop with all their DRM nonsense.Anything can be cracked,no matter what security measures are in place.

  • Personally I don't believe in HTLM5, that's why I'd like to see c0.x improved, and no more dependancies for the editor or executables.

    C2 /= HTML5

Construct 2 isn't going to be HTML5 exclusive, remember that! It's a modular exporter design, so more exporters will be developed. We picked HTML5 as the initial exporter because it reaches furthest in the market, as well as being an exciting new technology that we have faith will penetrate the web very deeply.

  • C.x is like 4 years old? and C2 - 3 months? I think we'll have to just wait for C2 to get to the same and then higher level, probably much less then 4 years after C2 goes commercial.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I've noticed that many people seem to not realize that C2 has a modular export feature and end up thinking that HTML5 is gonna be the only exporter. This is something that really needs to be rectified.

People are probably remembering the "software" version of Construct 0.x (that OTHER option, you know?)

I'm not one of them though

  • I think C2 is shapeing very nicely. The interface is nicer and faster in compare to 0.x and html5 is a step in very good direction for many reasons. To list a few would be the fact that pc gaming is shrinking, majority of pc gamers rather play aaa titles since they invested in their machines quite a lot of money. Therfore 2d gameing shifted thorwards mobile devices like iphone and ipad and online arcades where 2d games have still got bigger chancees of being noticed not only by geeks ( thought even there you got unreal engine 3 running on those now, so the competition is getting tougher). So basicaly what I'm saing is that with html5 you can reach wider audiance. Besides that I'm preatty sure that more exporters will come with time, so you'll be able to create stand alone iPhone/iPad apps, exe and maybe even console versions ( I'm counting on it

Now, I'm copying this from the other thread since i'm not sure how many people saw this, and it hink it can't be missed. The power of html5

  • I haven't taken a proper look at C2 because of the absence of an .exe exporter (let's not go over old ground, we've already been there), but I see no reason why C2 wouldn't be better than C1.

They've learnt a lot whilst writing C1, and when all the features are in place I'm sure it will be great.

I may even give it a try sometime, but probably not, because of the absence of....ahem.

the fact that pc gaming is shrinking

Lol, the death of the old grey slab has been greatly exaggerated over the years.

I remember about 10 years or so ago, we were being told that the PC was on it's way out by the media in every corner it seemed, and with the likes of Command & Conquer, PC games kept hitting the top of the charts.

We saw a similar thing 4 or 5 years ago from the media, including the UK TV Teletext magazine "GameStation" where the PC was being given it's last rites.

And now once again, no doubt from a narrow poll that doesn't reflect the full demographic, we hear that the PC will not survive the next generation of games consoles.

    Hmm, MineCraft anyone.

    Krush.

I think you've missed the point in what i said. Pc gameing is shrinking and i gaved good reasons to support my opinion.

edit@ MC is one of those exceptional games that can run quite smootly on very low end pc. Like mine. And because i can't aford ne rig every year, and have to stick with my 5 year old laptop I'm not plaing new games almost at all on pc. And there must be loads of people with specs like mine. Therefore games like wow and mc are keeping the platform alive.

  • I think PC gaming has a long way to shrink before it's smaller than the next biggest gaming market after consoles (whatever that is). In other words, PC gaming may be shrinking, but it's still huge.
