Should definitely give some kind of ETA on when C3 is getting released.

I have a friend that wont purchase the C2 since C3 is 'around the corner'.

Ah, that makes perfect sense. True, if you haven't bought it and heard an upgrade was coming up recently, than definitely. Maybe Scirra and @Ashley can do a sort of promotion to dismiss those worries. How about those that purchase C2 within 2 or 4 months from purchasing C3, only need to pay the difference in price between what they paid for C2 and the full price of C3?

For someone who does not have Construct 2, the question is ..
What is cheaper to buy C2 and upgrade to C3 or buy C3 directly?

It will be cheaper to buy C3 directly instead of first spending €100 on C2 and then €XX on upgrade. (Previous C2 owners will get a discount by they haven't said how much). but in the end it will be cheaper to buy C3 directly.

Great, that salt will go well with the french fries that I've just ordered.

Seriously though, one look at page #1 will give you all the news you need to know right now.
At this point you just have to be like I am about my order, excited but patient. :P

To those reading this post from 2018... I replied here from 2016... And 'Yes' there is no news yet. Maybe in 2020... ;-)

I bought C2 license 3 days after Ashley wrote the blog post about the future of Construct and C3. That was almost 2 years ago. Had I hesitated and waited it would've been a long wait for new version and limiting myself with the free version restrictions - in fact, we still don't have any clue when C3 might be released. Might be a month, might as well be another year.. or even more in the worst case. I wouldn't count on Scirra announcing an ETA for C3 many months ahead, as it wouldn't be a good business move on their part.

There's always something newer and better in the horizon, whether it comes to computers, phones or software. You just have to take the plunge at some point or you'll be waiting forever. I'm sure there will be a good upgrade plan/price point for C2 owners when C3 is finally released, I wouldn't worry too much about it. C2 is an affordable and plenty capable tool as it is, my advice is to just go for it and start making games now. As someone stated, the main limitation for most users is their own skill level, not the editor itself.

Nobody should wait for C3 with the purchase. We still don't know anything about the release date. Be the case that you buy C2 today and C3 is released tomorrow. I think Scirra thinks for these users and will offer some method to sort possible situations like this out.

Same here, I bought C2 after the announcement of C3 for Mac (currently running it in a VM). I thought the blog post and announcement was made because some decent work on C3 has already been done (otherwise spoiling customers would automatically kill the sales on the current product and might not recover).

I understand that Ashley is now getting tired of all the poeple asking for C3 now, but he's a business owner and has to face this challenge now. If the work on C3 is progressing, then posting some screenshots of the work in progress would give the crowd more confidence. For the moment, after two years on the announcement, Construct 3 could be considered as Vapor Ware.

I don't think it hurts that people keep asking about it- it's probably a sign that there is demand for it. If I were Ashley I'd be more concerned if nobody was asking about it.
I also think that the clickteam product is more of a competitor than the gamemaker stuff, as it was the clickteam products that construct was originally inspired by. And since mmf3 isn't released yet, it might be stupid to divulge in any details about c3. You can also tell that the clickteam team seems to be adding more stuff similar to construct. So if ashley were to share stuff while clickteam is still developing its product, they might try to add those as well.

Could be a possibility. Clickteam counts more people if I know right and therefore they could implement features faster than Scirra. So revealing features could cause damage to C3 in the long term.

Why Scirra can't get any investment and hire more people. Maybe we can invest them with https://www.seedinvest.com or they can make a kickstarter for C3, if they don't have the capital for hiring.
