Construct 3 for 3D?

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Sun Feb 01, 2015 7:09 pm

Now I know the focus of construct has always been 2D, and there's absolutely no issue with that. What I'm suggesting, is since c3 is an editor upgrade, is that you keep 3D editing an option while developing it.

I'm not asking for 3d tools, but for the editor to be extensible in such a way that it is possible to expand it with 3d editing functions.
Perhaps a community effort?

Sorry for formatting I'm writing on a phone.

I don't think wuold be possible...

but there are already some good 3d engine with visual scripting... (unity to, with playmaker) another good one is godot engine, but you need to write the code.... I don't remember the name of other engine, very easy (you learn in 1 day...) but has less options and you can't do so much... :D

I think if it integrates with Quazi's Q3D plugin it could really shine in 3D too, in fact I almost wonder if that's the main goal of updating the editor (to allow plugins more free-reign editor-side).

I think @jayjay's assumption is correct, C3 isn't going to be designed with 3D in mind, but people (i'm hoping myself :P) will be able to make plugins that make it work really well anyway. I'm already managing to do okay with C2, and if the edit-time offered me as much flexibility as the runtime Q3D would be way nicer to use. I'm hoping the new editor allows this, and i can really get some very nice 3D functionality into C3, even if this isn't C3's main goal.

yeah, it's very easy to use, "No programming needed" the default actions are very pour, nothing special...(and I don't think you can make a complete game)

I will suggest to use unity with playmaker... but the problem of the most 3d engine that you need a team to make a good game...

I means if you are alone, you have to make all assets: model3d, animation, texture (the most important part of my opinion) etc...

@Ribis
You have experience with unity and playmaker? Is playmaker similar to event sheet and easy to learn and use? I try to learn Shiva3D (bought basic version). This software is so difficult and there are less tutorials :(

I bought playmaker and I play with it... and is not very hard...I don't really like the "spaghetti" (I prefer construct2 in this case) but Unity has a huge community and you can find any tutorial you want... Unity has a great interface and is frendly in my opinion, you can put script inside a object... I use unity sometimes just for do some experiments, just for fun...

if I find someone who want to jump into Unity and try to do something in 3d or fake 3d  (I would like to make a horror/fps like final doom) I'm here

another things, in the store of unity you can buy a game like platform 2d, clone of mario64...etc and see how they make it and start to play with it...

and is better if the software has a lot of documentation, like construct, unity...etc

Sorry James. PlayMaker is not similar to Event Sheets. However PM is a Visual Programming Language. Mostly PM is about creating Objective State machines and Actions.

You create a block, the block controls a line or group of lines that do something tot he object the PM Code is attached to. You create many of these blocks. Then connect these blocks with Triggers, these connections are visual so you can see lines. Define the triggers similar to a Conditional Event.

I like PlayMaker as a State Machine, but I find visual tree's hard to organize for complicated objects.

However. I know people want 3D. And while I don't think Scirra should develop 3D. Making sure that C3 could suport 3D in some form is a good idea. So in that end I'm building a request list. not for feature such as 3d, but for features that if someone wanted to do 3D such as QuaziGNRLnose. Should be able to so, and have the edit time features. I'm not saying Ashley will do anything on the list, but can't hurt. And maybe there will be some inspiration.
