Post » Wed Feb 01, 2017 12:23 pm

There you have it folks, Construct 3 is coming!
And as a result, over the next few weeks we’ll be posting lots of information for you all to digest.
Lucky you!

Inevitably, people are going to join us on this journey to Construct 3 at different points, so this thread exists to keep track of all that lovely info! We’ll also be building up a bit of an FAQ so as the questions flood in, there’ll be one place where you can find some answers.

This thread will be updated with all the new information as it comes so if you miss a blog post, or have a burning question about what Ashley had for breakfast on launch day (please don't ask that question :| ) then this will be the place to go!

Remember, we’ll be posting things on the Scirra blog, Facebook and Twitter pages so make sure you’re following us!

FAQs

Can I run Construct 3 on my Mac?
YES! And your Chromebook, your Linux machine and your toaster. Well, scrap that last one. As Construct 3 now runs in browser, you can just run it in Chrome!

Is Construct 3 going to be 3D?
Our aim is to create the best 2D game maker.

How do I pay for Construct 3?
We've moved to a subscription model for Construct 3 as mentioned in the announcement blog post. Full prices can be seen here:
construct-3-pricing_t187766

I just bought Construct 2! Why are you trying to take more of my money?!
There will be a sweet deal for anyone who’s got a Construct 2 license. We do love you guys really.
And those of you who bought C2 on Steam are included in this offer too!
Existing licensed Construct 2 users (including on Steam) will get 50% off their first year.

Anyone who buys Construct 2 from today until Construct 3's release will get their first year of Construct 3 for free. To make it a no-brainer, we're also putting Construct 2 on sale for $99. So there's no reason to wait!

But I’m doing a major project in Construct 2! What do I do?
Construct 3 will be able to import your Construct 2 projects with ease. Please note, Construct 2 will not be able to open Construct 3 projects.

When’s the release date?
We plan on launching the first public beta by April. We’ll give you a more accurate date closer to the time.

What about my education licenses?
Any existing education users will be able to upgrade to Construct 3 for the remainder of their license period at no extra cost!

Will Construct 3 run offline?
Yes, you'll be able to run the editor offline. So you don't have to worry about intermittent internet!

What about my assets? Do they have to be online too?
You have the choice to store your assets locally or in the cloud.

@paala
Construct 3 licenses will be based on a subscription rather than a one-off payment. We also know many existing Construct 2 users will be thinking about upgrading. Here's a summary of how pricing and upgrades will work.
* A Construct 3 Personal subscription will be $99/year. This covers all export platforms.
* Existing licensed Construct 2 users (including on Steam) will get 50% off their first year.

Disappointed, I have always supported Scirra and its policies, but the payment per year did not, for my part have lost a buyer.

Looking at Game Maker, perhaps Fusion 3.

Question: As C3 is cloud based, where are resources stored?

Oppinion: Bad move because now you rely on an internet connection to develop something.

Essentially lost me.
Running in browser annoys me, because it'll mean more opportunity to shirk responsibility to a third party if something goes wrong.
Don't have Internet connection at all times and perhaps I have privacy concerns with using Chrome.
Yearly sub model, yeah no thank-you either. Dropped.

I think the same, I have intermittent internet.
I can not depend on the internet for my development, it is a blow to me that scirra adopt this model and I do not think it will support it. I also do not support subscriptions, I do not think I'll get C3 :(

99$/year is a good deal to be honest, that is if we export to mobile without any other intermediate, which I believe will be the case.
