No that's not the case, it's a 2D engine.

is not that easy, there are sooooo much stuff than just adding a Z coordinate to an engine.

Scirra is looking to build the best 2d game maker at the moment, 3D is something we all asked once, sadly the answer is no.

There is an existing paid third party plugin that uses three.js to produce 3D exports that you can do with Construct 2 at the moment
q3d-v-2-4-3d-physics-skeletal-animation-update_t106677

Editor is still 2D so building complex environments would probably be tedious.

I assume C3 will work fine with that plugin, but they haven't released any information on how it reacts and stores the plugins, let alone the modularity/customization options beyond CSS theming.

Haha nice. I understand how trying to make a 3D thing in a 2D engine would be a nice challenge of your skills but it seems redundant to me. Just use a 3D engine to make a nice 3D game, don't heavily modify a 2D engine to make a sloppy 3D game. Working backwards when you could just try and make a game in Unity or something. Not dismissing the fact that someone might want to do it as a challenge though, or portfolio piece.

Why not take the same approach to using cheat tools without scripting to make games at all? Learn c# for 2d.

C#? Don't be a noob. Assembly is the way to go.
