  • OK, I know this isn't a technical issue or anything of the sort, and perhaps (probably) there's another thread like this (or ten) out there, but I just need to say this again:

    CONSTRUCT IS AWESOME.

I've been making games for 8-9 years now, and nothing I've ever worked with beats the beauty of Construct. I used to dream about a tool like this, that would finally let me - more of a designer/storyteller than a programmer - realize some of my more demanding ideas. And now I've spent the last few months creating a game that is complex and huge and would've been utterly impossible for me to do any other way (and will also hopefully demonstrate to a lot of people what Construct can do).

And still, every now and then, I will hit upon a previously unnoticed feature that will let me solve complex problems with only a few commands.

A bigger thank-you from me to Construct will follow as soon as the game is done, in the form of a full article and a donation, but for now I thought we'd all just get together and show how much we appreciate this incredible piece of software.

  • Yeah it is.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • too true.

    HALLELUJAH

  • Funny.. I was thinking of making an "I love Construct" post.

That would be great for you to write an article. Construct needs more publicity... people don't know what they are missing. AMEN!

  • It can't really be said enough times. Thank you very much all the developers.

I would also like to thank the people behind the new plugins and effects that's starting to pop up here and there!

I've been preparing the article in my head for quite some time now. I'll make sure to get it published somewhere where a lot of indie developers will hear about it. And I know that there are a few developers who follow my work, so maybe it will have extra weight with them, and they'll give Construct a try.

  • Construct IS awesome, isn't it? For a while I wanted to make a thread/post like this one every time a new version with a super awesome new feature came out.

Show your game, dude! Give us some screens!

  • 1.Construct destroys it's competitors. It's the best free tool on the internet, and that's saying something.

2.It always amazes me that the devs were able to make it work so damned well.

3.It's almost unbelievable that such a tool exists. It lets you create any kind of digital interactive media in a relatively (very) short amount of time. Should have won the sourceforge contest by miles imo.

4.I think way too many people underestimate it's power and pass it off as a cheap mmf/gamemaker clone.

You're right. I have the commercial version of Gamemaker, and it's a joke compared to Construct. More stable perhaps, but with the amount of work it takes to get anything working, you might as well code the whole thing by hand. (I know that good games have been made with it, and there's a big community. But as a tool... no contest.)

  • Yeah, all that, plus it's still in beta. Just imagine what 2.0 will be like.

The only reason that happens is because we haven't seen a big success story for a game being created using Construct yet - Once that'll happen and the creator won't be an ass by making everyone believe he did all the programming work, Construct will get the attention it deserves, cause then everyone will want a slice of the cake.

I think the only big thing that's holding Construct back at this point is that there is no online capability. People will create single player experiences we haven't seen yet using Construct, but there's a whole lot you could do if Construct would make it easy to do online multiplayer.

So far, everyone I've shown Construct to has fallen in love with it pretty quickly. It's the perfect tool for prototyping games. Looking forward, I'd love to see the same thing powering a 3d engine.

    Whats this green beam do?

  • Oh yes Construct is wonderful~

I own Game Maker 7 and MMF 2, but even with it's occasional bugs, I'd choose Construct over both of those

  • Yes ... it is great - but there are problems

Mainly Construct is not really finished.

The overall user interface is weird.

The lack of real scripting is a problem for me. I often use Construct for prototyping but in the end I end up making it work in flash/python/gm/c++

I know there is python support but I have never been able to do anything interesting with the python plugins.

But in the other end of the scale. The behaviours and the plugins there are there are fantastic.

Sprite, Mouse & Keyboard, Physics, Platform, Drag'n drop are just stuff that takes a long time to get right in other environments.

The event sheets is also a great plus. Groups that you can turn on and off and Sheets that can be arranged into multiple sheets. These are a great way to arrange game logic.
