Countdown to TEOTWAWKI

  • Only 352 days until The End Of The World As We Know It: December 21, 2012!

How do you plan to spend your remaining days on Earth (as we know it, at least)?

  • Like before, and after the 21th... Like before

  • Lets just pretend there's actually 366 days this year, and add an extra day to February.... oh wait.

  • I'm going to go visit my old friend Doc Brown, and help him finish building his flux capacitor. Then I think we will install it in an old 1981 DeLorean, and travel 4999years, 13days back in time. And add a few more decades onto that calender. Then it's back to the future. Yep that should do it.

  • I actually used to believe in this and about 400,000 other things that now seem ridiculous. oh dear i hope the Armageddon gods don't read this

1.21 Gigawatts! What were you thinking?!?!

I just wonder what the next big apocalyptic event will be, once 21-Dec-2012 passes. Maybe 19-Jan-2038, when 32-bit Unix time rolls over?

Why is modern culture seems so desperate for some world changing/ending event?

  • Because of the same reason people believe in god(s), ufo's and such. It's a way to make yourself feel important. "I know that I'm right!" and similar reasonings (a lot of which happen at a sub-conscious level). It's a sort of willful delusion.

It's far from a "modern" thing though. Michel de Nostredame (or Nostradamus, as people inexplicably call him) lived during the 1500's. But I guess that'd depend on what you consider "modern".

  • But I guess that'd depend on what you consider "modern".

I was speaking, perhaps naively, from my own observations over the last 30 years. The number of end-of-the-world theories and cults seemed to mushroom in the early to mid 80s. Since Y2K entered the public consciousness, it seems we've had a nearly consistent flow of doomsday scenarios.

I suppose it could be that it just seems that way, since popular media is everywhere, and are always hungry for a good (or even mediocre) story.

I propose that all of the doomsday blather is created and promoted by a secret cabal of outdoor and survivalist outfitters.

    BTW, only 350 more days!

  • this is a big one though. this is the end of the world that everyone was serious about when they were pretending to be serious about the other ones. this fake end of the world date has been a long time coming

  • Doesn't make it any more likely to be correct.

This is not that far off from what I think is the case.

I'm gonna draw a parallel to natural disasters. There seem to be quite a lot of them occurring, thus people start believing that it's because us humans and such and such (part of that may be true, I don't know). But, it's not so much that we have more of them now than ever, as much as we are more aware of what's going on than ever before.

When it comes to prophecies it's kind of the same deal. People in general are more aware of various things in todays world, being privvy to radio, tv, internet and being able to read. It's easier for information, not to mention mis-information, to spread in todays society.

  • No nobody even Jesus knows when the earth will come to an end and those who have predicted the end time have all been wrong. Yes there are signs but all the signs must pass for the world to end. Important thing to note that there must be Rapture -- The Second Coming of Jesus -- before the world ends. Infact 21 - 12 - 2012 is the AntiChrist not the end time.

I usually ask myself this question Why know the end time and yet I am not spiritual prepared?
