  • I was randomly wondering the internet... only to find this. Not entirely sure what to make of it. It seems to actually relate more to Game Maker than Construct, but it still has support for HTML5... and the logo...

    darkflow.net

Haven't actually tried it yet. Has anyone messed about with it before?

  • This app is like a game maker meets construct 2 hybrid. The best thing is that it can export to multiple formats including exe files <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Looks more like a GameMaker alternative. There are alternatives to Construct as well... have you seen Game Develop?

This is why I love Scirra. I have never seen another developer who not only promotes discussion of the competitors on their forums, but also provides links to their products. Confidence FTW!

  • One off the many reasons why i will never use another 2d game maker.Ashley's comment has convinced me to save up for Construct 2.Scirra , Humble yet asskickingly bad ass at the same time.

    yeah...what he said.

    c2...get some!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Darkflow, namco's lawyer called

  • Game Develop looks 80% like C2 LOL! Probably using the same software/language to build the engine.

  • Lots of html5 game makers popping up these days :) There's an alien twin too: Tuloloo. They'll keep coming since HTML5 is trend. None of them comes even near of C2 of course . Even Game Maker.

Tuloloo supports direct JS scripting though so that's a plus for programmers alike.

As are others, I applaud your ability to refer to competitors. Awesome, Ashley! I think there's room enough for many players.

I will look at Game Develop, but I'm intrigued to see they support Ubuntu. Wow! Humble Bundle, and all that! There are days I just want to live in a Linux world. Maybe if I wait long enough, I will. About the time that Linux and Android converge ... wait, they just did that on the kernel level. <img src="smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" align="middle">

Anyway, I'll check out Game Develop on Ubuntu.

PS: I noticed this figure on the front page of Game Develop. Wasn't this similar to the Classic Construct RPG game characters?

Dark Flow indeed looks like an evil twin. You have to install .NET 4 to use it. I think it is actually a parallel universe mutation of Dark Basic.

    Dark Basic, Dark Matter, Dark Flow. What's the difference? <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

you'll probably end up seeing that a few more places as well. it's a free image pack someone made

Cool. Anyone have a link? I don't really like it but I'm always on the lookout for sprites. Maybe I'll just have to make my own using ... Spriter (which I just purchased)!

  • It's from LostGarden

    http://www.lostgarden.com/2007/05/dancs-miraculously-flexible-game.html

He made two tilesets at the time. One vector (XAML and the like), and in the comments you can get PNG render.

It's a CC attribution, if I remember well...

  • I checked it out and looks like C2's twin alright, haven't tested it though and i don't want to. I believed we'll be seeing a lot of these because of the HTML5 technology. Before C2, i tried using GM8.1 and a bunch of others for a while, but for some reason i kept looking for that certain "umph" in terms of ease of use, diversity and of course the helpful community that led me to choose C2, and the fact that it keeps on getting better so hoorah for C2.
