Distort With Ribbon Object?

For questions about using Classic.

Post » Thu May 05, 2011 2:30 pm

Is there any documentation or examples for the Ribbon object that shows distorting a sprite around placed points/positions?

I have searched around and found no documentation for this object, i found a old example where a circle sprite follows the mouse in a trail but it disappears and i want the result to stay still rather than fading a way.

Basically what i am trying to do is like you see in the objects icon where it has a mesh then bends the sprite around points forming a path. Does anyone have any examples or information about how i could do this? thanks

I have seen 1 example i think by R0J0hound, the problem is that was to make a mouse trail effect and is not really useful for what i wanted to do.

It seems to be used with the sprite distort options so maybe it is just used as a helper for that. I can find no information about how to use this object anywhere though.

Hey, you would happen to have one with out the boxes, would you? Like something you can drag around. Like a trail.

[quote="Azu":3eumo2rf]Hey, you would happen to have one with out the boxes, would you? Like something you can drag around. Like a trail.[/quote:3eumo2rf]

You mean this?
[url:3eumo2rf]http://www.scirra.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6703#p52743[/url:3eumo2rf]

Also

[code:3eumo2rf]+ System: For "i" from 0 to 20
+ System: For "j" from 0 to 1
-> Sprite: Set absolute displacement at (LoopIndex("i"), LoopIndex("j")) to XYZ(Ribbon.DistortX(LoopIndex("i"), LoopIndex("j")), Ribbon.DistortY(LoopIndex("i"), LoopIndex("j")), 0) UV(0, 0) 100 % [/code:3eumo2rf]

Two loops in the same conditional, never even thought about that one. :mrgreen:

I got it work while it' scrolling. Although, how would I get it to work with more than one object. Like, if I had five of the same object, how would I generate a ribbon for each of them?

Put "Ribbon" "ParticleSprite" and "RibbonTrail" into a container and the each ParticleSprite will have it's own trail.
