  • I made a driving game and added some extra effects like smoke and a handbrake

the only bug i know of at the moment is if you hit a wall just right you will go through it

    find it here http://www.mediafire.com/?ujnnqljnmlg

just made a few bug fixes (5/5/08)

    V2 is here http://www.mediafire.com/?j3oj3olez1m

  • Would ya kindly re-upload that file? I'm getting what amounts to a 404 at that host.

  • okay i fixed it...

i tried to make the link to the file directly so you wouldn't have to go to that stupid download screen... but it didn't work

  • One I got the hang of it, I was very pleased with the car physics. Powersliding successfully around a couple corners was thrilling!

A few things.. Touching a wall should bank the car off the wall at a proper angle instead of causing a bounce (and in this case, a total stop). This behavior frustrated me, as it felt a little cheap. I'm not saying it should be removed entirely, but a glancing blow with a wall should ricochet you away from it as you keep going.

I could not reproduce the wall glitch you talk about... and trust me, I tried.

This isn't very far away from being a fully playable game. With a little work and some additions, I think you'd have something really fun.

This is part of the car behaviour and cannot be changed... trust me, I've tried. I asked Ash to look into it, as you can't stop the car from bouncing off at supersonic rates. I'd rather turn the bounce off all together so I can program/script my own collision definitions.

  • My bad. I either didn't know or I forgot.

I spent 4 days trying to find a way to ricochet it off at an angle, but getting it to stop a few frames after it bounces was the best i could do for now

I couldn't even figure out how to get it to do that...

I played it and I think it's pretty cool I like the smoke effects and stuff... one suggestion though, when you use a handbrake the cars rotation speed should be increased as it would in real life... other than that it's pretty cool. Once Ash has time to address the bouncing issue it should be easy to improve the collisions.

  • I get a windows crash when running it!

If you are going almost parallel to the wall and hit it going at low speeds while turning into the wall, the front sometimes goes in the wall and you can drive through.

I'm not exactly sure why anyone would be turning into the wall at low speeds, but its still a bug.

    *Edit

Also, if you hit a wall and afterwards turn away from the wall the back end will go inside the wall.
