Export to Blackberry Devices

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Wed Oct 31, 2012 4:31 pm

Hi there! Last weekend I went to a mini-jam RIM organized to develop applications to the new blackberry devices.
As Ashley already posted, performance is very good on the browser and blackberry seens to have the tools already in place to allow apps in HTML5 to be converted to their appstore.

Reading the news about WP8 today, I tought, is it possible to create a direct export option in C2 for blackberry devices too? It seens like a cool new market.

Last I heard WebWorks had some insane limitations that prevented Construct 2 games from working. Have you tried importing an ordinary HTML5 export and seeing if you can get it to work?

I'm glad to see RIM holding on; I hope they can turn things around once BB10 hits the markets next year.

If you don't want to wait until it is included as a standard option in C2 (which would probably depend on where it sits on the roadmap and if there is value in targeting what is already a shrinking market), you could check out PhoneGap Build.

Good luck sheepy!

I've used it for building iOS and Android apps and it was pretty slick. There was a bug (earlier this year) with file names so just make sure you read up to see what the status is on their build cycle.

@Ashley: Ouch! That wouldn't be surprising. I fought with it on a couple of projects earlier this year and it was an extremely difficult platform to get anything working on. If I recall correctly, PhoneGap Build actually just pushes your project to the RIM servers for packaging as well so that probably wouldn't improve much.

Maybe I will have to go and take another look...

I think PhoneGap Build is your best bet, but we only have a BlackBerry Playbook which for some reason can't install apps from PhoneGap Build. So it all seems pretty messy, I guess you have to use WebWorks but it doesn't seem like a platform that's too friendly to developers.
