These are well funky! It's surprising how well it runs while still looking great, like Ash I get around 300 FPS on the furry box (ahem!) and around 3000 on the fur background demo.

very nice, i myself was thinking about making a fur type thing. in a somewhat similar way.

These kind of remind me of the fur effect in Shadow of the Colossus :)

The textures are already PNGs with transparency, but the cubes needed their opacity changing individually so that the texture fades out as the cubes get larger. Is there anything preventing the 3d Box object from having normal opacity?

on my laptop with centrino duo core 1.8 ghz, 2gb ram and geforce 7300 mobile 256 mb dedicatd ram and 256 shared i had 12 fps with rotating fur cube.
