HBGames.org's BUILD & WIN Construct 2 Contest

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Update! Want to be a Judge?

We have about 10 days left on this contest.

If any members here are interested in being a judge, let me know! I don't want anyone to think we will be playing "favorites" among popular HBG members (we won't! But in case you're worried about it, why not be a judge yourself?).

The judging rubric is here:
http://www.hbgames.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=873496

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A JUDGE:

To be a judge for the contest, you need to:

1.) Be available to judge all entries between April 1-3.

2.) Have time & patience to give a fair playtest to 10-15 games. You will need to play them either until their conclusive ends, or until a point that bugginess or unfair difficulty has forced you to stop.

3.) Have a fairly decent eye for design, and a good grip on English -- Part of the judging rubric is in speculating on how well an entrant has beautified & honed their entry thread.

4.) Have speakers or headphones -- Part of judging involves assessing sound!

5.) Have a decent internet connection, Chrome (browser), and a PC that isn't from the stone ages (if the game SEEMS to lag just because of problems on your end, it could negatively affect your judging).

6.) Become a registered member on HBGames, so you can share your results with the other judges, and assess whether or not entrants have been making attempts at advertising their game, in their signatures and elsewhere.

7.) Be fair & balanced (and not in the FOX News way, but ACTUALLY fair & balanced)!

8.) ... Not be personally entered into the contest. (Sorry, entrants!)

If you feel like you meet those criteria and want to judge, you can either post here, or PM me, either here, or at HBGames.
I will give you further details if you're interested.

Thank you so much for all your support, everyone!Venetia2012-03-21 20:29:08

I read that we're supposed to use the free edition of Construct 2, and then I read that we shouldn't worry about the rules. I'm confused.

I started working on a game using the licensed version of Construct 2 around 3/17/2012 and it has 127 events and 1 family. And at least 10 of those events is just to keep the event sheets organised. Can I enter it into the contest, or do I need to try to trim down the number of events?Zephlon2012-03-24 21:55:49

What Venetia meant regarding rules was the grey-zone / nitpicky stuff like the use of plugins, potential cheating around the rules etc due to different programming experiences from different contestants. You do either need to use free edition, or keep your game to the free edition's limit, because the point of this contest is for us to win a standard edition of Construct 2. It would be kind of pointless to win a standard edition with a standard edition-made game.

That being said, your game needs to be less than 100 events, less than or have at most 4 layers, and doesn't use families. rosareven2012-03-25 09:28:24

Rosa is right.

I didn't want people really stressing details, so I said not to stress too much about them. Sometimes people focus so much on rules or restrictions that they don't have fun, or they underestimate themselves and bow out. Or, even worse, they focus so much on rules, that they get into endless arguments about their interpretations of them! :P

You will need to keep your game within the Free edition's limitations -- but it doesn't sound like you'd need to really trim a HUGE amount to still make it work.

There aren't many contests that have so very few rules or conditions ... :)

make game with 100 events seem not enough, but if you start making game with construct, i bet you will say :" mummy, give me some money, i want to get a full version of construct 2" ... :)) i think the point of contest is show the power of construct even it was free edition, and the creative of developer, i joined a contest ,just want to show to other people what construct can do ^^, Great tool, i love construct so much ! :X

JohnnySix, I can't find your entry in the official entry forum.

You have to have a thread for your entry here:
http://www.hbgames.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=293

In order to enter the contest.

If it's there and I'm just not looking hard enough, my apologies.
