Hello - I am new here

Discussion and feedback on Construct 2

Post » Thu Nov 29, 2012 11:03 pm

Hello.

My name is Brandon.

I am new to Construct 2, I have not had a chance to mess around with the system yet. I always have had a love for games and creating them. Though, I do know some programming such as c++, little bit of Java and Visual Basic, I am intrigued by the layout and effectiveness of this HTML5 game tool. I believe in this product and its an easy way to get your ideas out fast without programming.

Now what I am asking, would it be worth looking more into Construct 2, or programming my own games?

For game assets, such as music and graphics, do I have to use whats given to me? Or can I create my own?

I am looking to create games for the sole purpose of pleasure, and maybe down the road some cash.

I probably should note, I am currently a College student at the University of Penn State (United States - Pennsylvania) and I do know knowledge in HTML5 and such.

Please let me know what you think.

ps: If I have put this in the wrong forum, I am sorry.

Thanks a million,

Hello there, and welcome!

If you are looking to create games for pleasure, you have come to the right place. Construct 2 is the best software on the market right now for the pure enjoyment of making games.

In my opinion, if you wish to make commercial games... you have also come to the right place. C2 is very powerful and HTML5 is only improving.

Try out the free version! I trust you will enjoy it immensely and will be soon purchasing a license.

Have fun, and remember to come ask for help in the forums if you need any help.

(It's cool to hear you're from Pennsylvania, I'm feeling lonely here!)

Thanks for the quick reply!

It must be a small world then

Do you know where I can post my games on? I see Kongegrante or how ever you spell it. Anywhere else also?

Kongregate, the Scirra Arcade, Newgrounds, Clay.io, MarketJS (If you want to sell your game to publishers) and a bunch more that don't come to mind instantly.

Okay that sounds good.

For game assets, such as music and graphics, do I have to use whats given to me? Or can I create my own?

Haha, of course you can create your own! Scirra simply gives some assets so those not so artistically inclined can get started on a decent-looking game.

What do you mean by 'limited to anything'? In what context?

Limited to things than actually writing an HTML5 and Javascript application by scratch.

-Such as online multiplayer
-Handling variables other than just high scores, times etc.
-Frame rates

Those are some of the things I wounder about.GameThirsty2012-11-30 01:27:24

Combo Breaker ~!~!~!

1- Well ... The FrameRate performance is pretty good , I get 45 fps for an average platformer in my crappy 2007 integrated DirectX 9 Card PC , And 30-60 for mobile device ... For an HTML5 Engine the performance is pretty stable !

2- Multiplayer is possible , check out Zack0Wack0 Websocket plugin in the plugin section ... And also , If you think C2 is limited , you can write your own plugins in Javascript , The Only limit is the Sky !

3- Handling what ? In C2 you can create a variable with any name and any other stuff ... ( Screwed it there ... to lazy to edit it :p ) There is no high-score and bla, bla, bla ... You just create a variable and the job is done !

Cheers

P.S : Welcome ! If you need anything , You know who to ask !
