Help on finding the name of this effect

I know this isn't the explicit help form, but I decided to post here because my question doesn't really have anything to do with "How do I...?" Basically I'm looking for an effect that could replicate what's going on in this image, or at least a method of replicating it.

More specifically, I'd like an effect that produces short-lived "clones" behind a moving sprite, of a different color if possible. I've tried searching for one myself but it's made more difficult by the fact that I can't really think of what the effect would be called.

clones of the moving sprite? short of making a new colored sprite, you could just spawn the same sprite, enable an effect like "Set Color".
