How do I create a halo animation when character takes potion

hi guys,

in my game, i have an option to take a potion, which causes the character to be Invulnerable for a limited time.
now, to make a visual for this, i created a halo animation around the character.
the problem is, how do i set this animation, along with the other animations, so it will not disturb them (for example, the character can still walk, run, jump and attack)?

What if you pin another sprite "halo circle" to the character, and make it visible when you want.
