How do I even make proper Animations?

  • There aren't any tutorials which actually help with how you're supposed to edit the legs and arms to make good animations efficiently. I have no idea how to move the legs and feet (from a basic stickman and definitely not an image)properly.

How do people know how to model the legs and arms?

  • Well , that's not something you should not do in C2 ...

You should instead use some animation programs like Spriter

Here's an image on the movement of the body ...

You may want to look at this

    Walk cycle generator

  • "The resource cannot be found" for Spriter

  • Try Construct 3

    Thanks I'll try that soon.

  • Spriter

Erm... that program is really old and when I click the link it says it's not available.

But I'll try Spriter since you can customize the animations.

  • I'm using Spriter and it's still so hard to make anything good. Walk cycles are useless because you have to remove the background with Paint.net, then you put them on Construct 2 and every time I turn left the player teleports like two metres.

I believe all of those walk cycles on the Internet are for you to use as a model or template. There shouldn't be any backgrounds to remove if you are making your own art. Spriter works fine for me in C2... are your animations centered in Spriter? Like where the horizontal and vertical lines meet? Each of those frames in the walk cycle should overlap--not be spread out side-to-side.

    But animation takes practice.

  • Adobe Flash, Adobe Photoshop, 3ds Max can export individual frames and/or complete animations

  • In answer to your initial post:

"How do people know how to model the legs and arms?"

They know because they have either a natural talent for it,or more likely, they have practiced and learned their animation skills.

  • Yeah, it's quite difficult to make something like this look good - it's also really out of the scope of Construct 2.

  • Ok and I know I'm being a bit lazy here (not really because I've spent hours trying to animate my stick man and it looks like crap), but can someone please animate the sprite? I have all the body parts separated into a folder, and I converted them all into PNGs if that makes it better.

Here is the .zip file containing the body parts if anyone's interested: (I can't post links on text.)

Also, Spriter for me is really frustrating. When I export something into a PNG, it's all normal, but when I put it on Construct 2 it's just invisible, even though I set it to visible. And when you adjust the size of a body part on Spriter, the resolution of it turns unbelievably low.

  • I have used Synfig studio before. It is rather fiddly to use but you can animate in vectors and attach pngs to the animation. Since the actual animation is separate from the graphics you can swap the pngs at will for different characters. I use it because I can make animations using raster graphics but have super smooth fps as well.
