How do I force use to complete action

Hi, im into a situation that i need a little help

Sometimes in my game a pop up appear(with buttons to press), and i need to force the player to select one of the buttons, but the game still runs under the pop up.

its a static game, nothing moves under the pop up, but he can click if he want.

how can i approach this problem?

You have to make a global variable or something that needs to be checked against. So if "Popup is on screen = false" then the player can continue with the game. And you put this check into all the events that lets the player do something, that could interfere with the popup. And set it to true whenever the pop up is on screen ofc.
