How do I make a board game with linear course

Get help using Construct 2

Post » Tue Jan 12, 2016 1:09 am

Hi everyone,

I have developed this awarness game on Ebola: Image
Now I would like to make a video game of it.

But I don't know how to make pawns moving along a linear pathway..
The idea would be a make a (or many) pawn moving for a square to another depending of the result of the dice.

If anyone as tip or tutorial (I can't find any, it's like those quite of game doesn't exist on Construct..), that would be awesome ;)

Thanks in advance !

This is a very morbid game.

Do you need them to move or can you just have them 'jump' from tile to tile? You also could try using lerp for both x/y for each pair of tiles, but this would only work well for tiles that are nearby one another.

I don't check the forums much anymore, but I will receive an email for PMs.

Thanks for your reply :)

I open to both solutions. Moving or jumping are both fine (but moving would be best I guess) as long as the pawn doesn't disapear.

I have come myself to a "jumping solution" but the problem is that the pawn disapear between two jumps: http://pixelimpact.org/ebola/game1/index.html
I have also tried a pathfinding solution but the pawn go only straight in line and get stuck on the wall without no reason...: http://pixelimpact.org/ebola/game2/index.html
(Why I can't post .capx on the topic?)

What is lerp exactly? Even with explanations https://www.scirra.com/forum/what-is-lerp-2-minute-tutorial-for-the-non-math_t60509 I can't understand...

And yes I'm aware it's a morbid game... It's an awareness game use in West Africa by the Red Cross to teach people how to protect themvelse from Ebola.
So I guess Construct and game making can also save lives 8-)

Thanks again!

LERP is mainly: Telling the function the to move something from corrdinate1 to coordinate2 and how fast.

Would it be fine for you to use a 3rd party plugin? If yes, have a look here, this will make your life much easier :)

I am going to ask another stupid question.... how many people in West Africa even have computers/the internet to play this game?
