How do I make a First Person RPG like Wizardry?

Get help using Construct 2

Post » Wed Oct 14, 2015 2:32 pm

I'm working on my third game, which is a First Person Dungeon Crawler in the style of Wizardry or Eye of the Beholder, and I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to do this.

Does anyone have an idea of how this could be done? I'd really appreciate it, guys.

These games did not animate the background as you were moving, so if it's what you are looking for, it's simply a matter of having a multitude of backgrounds to represent the different configurations of hallways, doors and what not, and display the correct one depending on neighboring rooms.

Yeah, that's it! How would I display the backgrounds depending on neighboring rooms? Is it a matter of creating multiple keyboard variables or is there a simpler option?

Also, how would I put enemies into the game? Is it a matter of just making them visible and active on certain intervals?

The logic should all be handled via arrays, with enemies moving from a room (array cell) to another with the method of your choice. You could also use a tilemap (with tile IDs for its values), simply for its ease of use and visual representation at edit time, and make it invisible at runtime.

Much appreciated. Also, how do I open capx files not made by me?

You simply open them. Construct 2 should be associated with .capx. You have to have the same version, which it will usually tell you if you don't. Also if there is any Plugins or Behaviors missing it will let you know as well
