How do I make fake 3d rubik and rotate it?

using isometric view style, How do I make fake 3d rubik and rotate each column/row?

what i have in mind:
+ the blocks "face" are sprites
+ sprites get "skewed" when rotated.
+ "lerp" to make the "skew" smooth.

or i am completely out of track?

The main issue is sprites can't be skewed. So without third party plugins the best you can do is fez like rotations:

Of course you may be able to do an isometric view with lots of animations of the the cube rotating.

Alternatively you can skew images with the paster plugin. You can look here:

your paster plugin and rotating cube example seems fit for what i want to do (visually).
and the fez-like rotation is what i want to do (gameplay-wise).
