How do I make movement effect a singular instance of object

I tried for two days now to solve it on my own before asking, but I'm desperate.

I've been trying to make a specific movement pattern affect each instance of a sprite without effecting the movement pattern of all duplicates on screen.

How could I separate the controls or events for each instance of the sprite?

I had an idea about 5 min after posting. Figures.

I just set a condition that checks whether or not an instance variable is equal to 1 or 0, if 0, it starts the sequence and sets it to 1. If 1, it doesn't turn on.
