How do I make rotating background seem cylindrical?

Hello,

I’m working on a small horror game based on panoramas. My problem is that panoramas are looking flat and unrealistic without some sort of lens that would make images curve a bit. I have no idea if this can be done and how.

Here is a link to my uploaded test:
http://ddteam.byethost32.com/GameTest/index.html

Each panorama consists of two images 2048px/480px (actual panorama is 4096/480). Big mistake was to make window size 640px/480px, I should have made window 1024px wide (so: front/right/left/back 4096/1024) but the lens is a bigger problem.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a lens (or some sort of a plugin) that would make image seem cylindrical?

Thanks to everyone reading this post and even bigger thanks to anyone who would have a solution or advice :)

Did you try a WebGL effect on layout like Sphere effect?

I just tried it on vignette image (it’s on top of the panorama images) but it doesn’t seem to have any effect on the panorama :(

Now I get it, I have applied it on the panorama and it does have a similar effect, thanks a lot :) :) I’ll look into it and post results.

After some experimenting I found myself achieving nothing :(

This is default render of the Sphere effect:

After changing the fx file refract vector…

…I managed to produce some sort of reverse-refraction-thing with lines rendering outwards:

But unfortunately this is not the desired effect. What I needed was for image to render inwards, similar to the default rendering mode, but placing the ‘camera’ inside the sphere.

Does anyone know how to modify the script to accomplish ‘inside’ sphere view or something similar?

@PavleNikolic

I made an effect to simulate a cubemap/camera type view.
Will post a link to the files as soon as I can (find it!)
I def still have it on my computer.

That would be so great, thank you :) Does it work with cubemap, equirectangular or classic panoramas?

@PavleNikolic
'Does it work with cubemap, equirectangular or classic panoramas? '

The effect deforms the background image (the depth) to simulate either a
3d'ish seamless side scrolling effect, or 360deg seemless Skybox.
I found a bunch of screenshoots I took when I was working on it-

Just need to find the fx files now!
