How do I make 'smart' AI ?

Let's say it's a 2D topdown shooter game, I want Enemy AI with guns,

They are in a house with walls, they will walk slowly to suprise the player and they wont just keep run in to the player, they will just walk a certain range, basicly AI with guns that wont just toggle Object.move to player

Any tutorials on this?
